- American Flamingo
This is the reflection of Alexander Caldwell’s Flamingo statue (1973 – installed 1974), located in front of the Federal Building in downtown Chicago, Illinois. I chose this as my “photo of the day” because I believe that it “reflects” (if you will pardon the pun) the complexities of life in modern America – it is all very confusing! Here we have buildings (all seen through glass or reflected in it), the abstract statue (huge!) lights and reflections of lights, and some small sunlit trees seen through the lobby. Again, all very complex and confusing. And of course, the American flag, also seen through the glass, or possibly reflected, I can’t remember. Which drives home my point. This is a great statue and very photogenic, I believe that it rivals “the Bean” (Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park in that respect. God Bless America!
